Event Description

We return for a second year, but this time it’s The Black Prince!

We’re back supporting the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway Association. Last year we gave you the Hercules Virtual Marathon and this year we are delighted to announce the latest event: The Black Prince Virtual Half Marathon!
Race dates: 1st April 2022 – 30th April 2022

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway has had a turbulent couple of years. Things are looking hopeful again and with the return of a new virtual race we’re ready to hit the coming year full steam ahead!

You can be part of this effort by joining us for the Black Prince Virtual Half Marathon, running for one month throughout April 2022. All event profits will be donated directly to the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway Association  to help support their fundraising.
About The Black Prince
The Black Prince at RH&DR is one of three locomotives built by the German manufacturer Krupp and designed by a contemporary of Henry Greenly, Roland Martens. They were all built for a trade fair held in Dusseldorf.
Originally named Fleissiges Leischen (which, in English, is small flower) she saw some action in Köln, before being put into store.
She duly arrived at New Romney and after minor modifications to the drivers seating and a repaint, she entered service as No.11 Black Prince. 2021 saw Black Prince return to steam on the railway after a major overhaul – funded by the Association.
About the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Light Railway

The Railway opened in 1927 and operates between Hythe and Dungeness on the Kent Coast – a distance of 13.5 miles. Your half marathon distance is, therefore, equivalent to a journey on the railway (or ever so slightly under)

Why not book a journey to enjoy the distance in comfort and admire the world’s smallest public railway?

How does the Black Prince Virtual Half Marathon work?

Once signed up, we will send you a step by step guide on how to take part, it couldn’t be easier! You can walk or run the 13.1 miles on your own or within socially distanced small groups. The distance can be completed indoors or outdoors and either in one session or divided into smaller sessions.

You can also help the appeal by fundraising via the Just Giving page where you can also upload your efforts via Strava for your supporters to see
Involve the whole family

You can walk or run the distance as a family, combining your distances, and we have special Family tickets available.

The Railway is really keen to encourage everyone – whatever their age or ability - to get out and support the railway.

Whilst we can’t promise the crowds to spur you on and the excitement of race day competition, we can however recreate the sense of running community and challenge in our unique results platform and selfie gallery.

So, why not sign up, lace up and it's ‘all aboard’!!

race/challenge. We email all our participants when they have been posted to you.
