Event Description

The 2016 Settle Saunter

Saturday 11 June 2016

Start 08.30 am

This fantastic event proudly presents

- 4 great routes -

- marvellous scenery -

- a big friendly welcome -

- plenty of grub -

The Saunter is an annual walking/running event along footpaths and bridleways taking entrants into the Yorkshire Dales to see some picturesque rural villages and hamlets and swathes of intoxicating countryside. It is organized and run by the Rotary Club of Settle with help from members of the local community. There are checkpoints with light refreshments along the way and a hot savoury meal is provided at the end. Badges and certificates upon completion are all included in the entry fee. Free car parking is provided.

There are four routes on offer (9, 12, 16 and 22 miles) to accommodate a wide range of abilities. Some stages of the route, though not all, are flagged with tape to help with navigation. A comprehensive route description is available to all entrants.

We welcome all-comers in the expectation they have a reasonable level of fitness to complete their chosen route. Youngsters under 18 are most welcome on the three shorter routes but we do have some safeguarding rules for them. These are:

  • the 22 mile route is restricted to ages 18+
  • 16-17 year olds if unaccompanied must provide a parental/guardian consent form
  • juniors aged 15 or younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times

Registration, start & finish on the day is at the Victoria Hall, Kirkgate, Settle, BD24 9DZ [GR 818 637]. Registration takes place between 7.30 - 8.15 AM and the start time for both walkers and runners is 08.30 AM.

The Saunter helps the Rotary Club of Settle raise funds for good causes. Funds raised in 2016 will be shared between Settle Swimming Pool, Clapham Cave Rescue Organisation and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Settle is a tourist area and for travellers coming to the event there is a multiplicity of places to stay: B&B, hotels, self- catering and camping & caravanning. The contact details for Settle Tourist Information Centre are:
