Sean became the first and only man in history to cycle, swim AND run the length of Britain. The Land’s End – John O’Groats pilgrimage by bike is a hugely popular route taken by cycling enthusiast every year. The same endeavour undertaken on foot is a much more intimidating challenge, but the idea of swimming from the tip of Scotland to the most southernly part of England was considered impossible.
Sean Conway deals in impossible. After being turned down by a number of sponsors - who believed it would be the death of the adrenaline junkie – and managing just three miles in a local pool, Sean set off.
That wasn’t to be the craziest thing Sean ever did. In 2015, one of the greatest adventure challenges Britain has ever seen saw Sean travel over 4000 miles, fully self-supported, circumnavigating the entire coast of mainland Britain. The distance Conway covered was the equivalent of travelling from London to New Delhi – just to put things into perspective.
If you’re looking for some motivation and some tips on mentally preparing for your next adventure running events, Sean has a collection of books to get stuck in to. He will also be appearing as guest speaker at The National Running Show in Birmingham on 20-21 January.
