DIRT RUN at IRCHESTER COUNTRY PARK
A Winter Trail Running Experience – Downhill!

Formerly known as The Wellingborough Multi-Terrain Series, this event offers two rounds of trail running excitement. Round 1 takes place at Irchester Country Park, featuring three distance options: 5K, 10K, or 15K. Round 2 will be held at Brigstock Country Park with two distances to choose from: 7.5K or 15K (see separate listing for details on Round 2). This year, we’re back to the exhilarating downhill route at Irchester, running in reverse of the 2024 course.

Whether you're looking for a multi-terrain fun run, a chance to take your parkrun off-road, want to practice your triathlon run leg, or are ready for a serious race in stunning surroundings, the varied terrain of Jurassic Irchester Country Park and Brigstock Country Park in Northamptonshire is perfect. With three distance options in Round 1, this race welcomes all ability levels. The course follows the same route, with 5K runners completing 1 lap, 10K runners doing 2 laps, and 15K runners tackling 3 laps, all starting together.

In Round 2, choose between a 7.5K or 15K single-lap course. Thanks to the National Trust, runners will enjoy a unique experience with a scenic view of Lyveden New Bield – an Elizabethan lodge with beautiful architecture and intricate carvings. This partially completed structure, nestled within Northamptonshire’s countryside, offers a fascinating glimpse into history, surrounded by wildflower meadows and tranquil gardens. Runners will traverse this enchanting landscape with sweeping views that highlight this hidden gem.

Parking is available at the country park – please check their website for the latest charges and remember to bring change.

COURSE DETAILS
The race includes a 1, 2, or 3-lap course on the diverse terrain of Irchester Country Park. A map of the downhill course can be found here, and an uphill version here. We’ve added an extra section to the 10K and 15K routes: runners will veer left onto a trail before the hill on laps 2 and 3, cross the roadway, and follow the field’s edge before reconnecting with the main path at the hill. You’re welcome to change your distance on the day; simply speak to the registration team (note: cash payment required for any fee difference).
