Event Description

The Focus 10K is Chailey Heritage Foundation’s most important fundraising event of the year, and this year it is back at Vuggles Farm on the Sutton Hall Estate, near Newick, East Sussex. Join us on race day and raise money – every penny raised is for the children and young people with complex neurodisabilities. Taking place on Sunday 14 May at the stunning Sutton Hall Estate, you can run a 10K or 5K, on this beautiful private estate which is only available to runners during the Focus 10k. This unique off-road 5K course takes you on a trail run alongside a river, and through stunning woodland, with a couple of gentle hills (40m total elevation).

The race village will open at 8:30am for all runners and spectators. The 10K & 5K begin at 10am. Please allow enough time for registration. The race village closes at 1pm.

Chailey Heritage Foundation is a charity which supports children and young people in the south-east with complex neurodisabilities and health needs. Money raised through the Focus 10K will be going towards running our fantastic on-site therapy farm – Patchwork Farm. The farm provides unique learning experiences for all young people at Chailey Heritage Foundation. The farm residents include pigs, pygmy goats, chickens, geese, tortoises, sheep, donkeys, guinea pigs, ducks and a Shetland pony. The farm offers a calming, outside space where young people can enjoy spending time with the animals as well as providing benefits such as confidence building and developing language and communication skills.

Please note prices shown below include a small BookitZone booking fee with the full entry fee paid to Chailey Heritage Foundation.

Event Terms

By completing the race entry, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined below.

Travelling to the Event
By signing up to take part in this event, you accept complete responsibility for any injury or accident which may occur while you are travelling to or from the event, during the event, or while on the premises of the event, save to the extent any injury or accident which is caused by our negligence.

Personal Health and Fitness
You understand that participating in this event is potentially hazardous, and you should not enter and participate unless you are medically able and properly trained. We recommend that you consult your doctor prior to undertaking training for the Focus 10K. It is your responsibility to make sure you are medically fit and capable of running the Focus 10K. We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to stop any runner from taking part if we deem him or her unfit to run, including mid-race removal from the course where necessary.

Medical Treatment While Attending the Focus 10K
By entering this event, you are confirming that should you require any medical treatments during your attendance at the event, whether before, during or after the actual run, they may be administered by the events’ official medically qualified personnel.

Medical Conditions
It is your responsibility to inform the race organisers when booking your place if you have any medical conditions.

This information will be shared with relevant organisations such as our first aid provider for the purposes of the event. We also ask all runners to complete the relevant medical details (including medical conditions and any medication taken) on the back of the race number which you will be provided with on the day.

Entry
You must not, under any circumstances, give your race number to anyone else. Amongst other potential problems, doing so may cause problems of identification for the event medical services in the case of any accident or injury. Any attempt to do so will result in immediate disqualification of the individual(s) concerned and ejection from the event.

Bicycles, stilts, roller skates, skate boards, etc.  are not permitted in the event and those attempting to use them will be prohibited from starting and may be forcibly removed from the course mid-race where necessary. Likewise, anyone attempting to start or join the race in any outfit that we, in our absolute discretion, deem unsuitable and/or dangerous to other competitors or spectators, will not be allowed to start the event or, and if on the course, may be forcibly removed from the event.

Use of Images
By taking part in the event, you grant full and irrevocable permission to us and any third parties authorised by us to use any photographs, videotapes, motion pictures, website images, recordings or any other record of this event that may include your image.

Collection and Use of Information
Your personal information will only be used by us and any appointed third parties for purposes in connection with the event and any subsequent events that we may organise or administer. By entering the event, you grant full and irrevocable permission for us to pass any medical details you have given us to the medical teams operating on the day of the event.

Race Ejection
We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to refuse to allow you to participate in the event either at the start or to continue participation at any point along the route of the event, should you be deemed to behave inappropriately or give cause for concern that your continued participation may cause offence or injury to yourself, any spectators or other competitors. This includes the wearing of any clothing or visual messages that may cause offence. Failure to comply with any instruction from race officials and marshals will result in ejection from the race and may also result in you being reported to the police.

Change of Contact Details
If your postal address, email address or telephone number details change, then you must inform us as soon as possible by emailing fundraising@chf.org.uk If this is not done, we cannot guarantee that you will receive all race communications.

Animals
Animals will not be permitted on the Focus 10K course. We are unable to allow guide dogs on the course but can offer a free place to guide runners. Please email fundraising@chf.org.uk to arrange this. Well behaved dogs, on leads, are allowed in the Race Village ONLY.

Refunds and Cancellations
The moment you enter our race, we start to incur administration costs and banking charges, simply in processing your entry and payment. We also incur further charges in administering cancellations and processing refund payments. Your entry fee is invested in the cost of staging the event, and the main costs to contractors, suppliers, administration etc are already committed well before race day. Furthermore, most races do not offer any form of refund at all if a runner decides to cancel their place because of injury, illness, lack of training or change of plan. There are many other instances of higher priced services, such as plane, train or theatre tickets where no refunds can be given for cancellation in these circumstances. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel applications including duplicate applications, or alter the date of the event, the course or the distance. No refund can be given if the race has to be cancelled or postponed due to circumstances outside our control, for instance due to the advice of the emergency services.
However, if we have to cancel the race due to Covid-19 restrictions enforced by the Government, you will be entitled to a full refund.

Transfers
No transfer of entries from one runner to another will be permitted.

Transfer of Race Distance
You can change your distance but you will only be eligible for chip timing for that race if you let us know in advance (this can be up to 15 min before the race starts). No refunds will be given. If you want to up your distance a premium of £8 will be payable.

If you change your distance during the race your chip time may not represent this and you will not be eligible for any prizes. If you do this please ensure you let a marshal know at the finish line and it may be possible to get you the correct time.

Finisher Pack
Only those who finish the Focus 10K or 5K will be entitled to a Finisher’s Medal and goody bag.

Participation in the event is entirely at your own risk and by entering the event, participants acknowledge that we shall not be liable for death, injury, loss or damage arising from participation in the event, save to the extent that it is caused by our negligence. I understand that participating in this event is potentially hazardous, and that I should not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained. In consideration of the acceptance of this entry, I assume full and complete responsibility for any injury or accident which may occur while I am traveling to or from the event, during the event, or while I am on the site of the event.

I, for myself and my heirs and executors, hereby waive, release and forever discharge the event organisers, sponsors, promoters and each of their agents, representatives, successors and assigns, and all other persons associated with the event, for all my liabilities, claims, actions, or damages that I may have against them arising out of or in any way connected with my participation in this event.

I understand that this waiver includes any claims, whether caused by negligence, the action or inaction of any of the above parties, or otherwise.

I hereby grant full permission to any and all of the above parties to use any photographs, videotapes, motion pictures, website images, recordings or any other record of this event.
