The Racecourse Relays
Sunday 1st September 2019 starting 10.00am
At the old Manchester Racecourse site (now Kersal Wetlands)
Organised by Prestwich Athletic Club
Raising money for Riding for the Disabled and Salford Lads’ and Girls’ Club
Manchester Racecourse was a horse racing venue last used in 1963 with the final race being won by Lester Piggott and watched by over 20,000 spectators. The site is now a wildlife reserve called the Kersal Wetlands.
We want to bring the spirit of horse racing back to the site with The Racecourse Relays. The relay involves teams of four runners; each runner completes one loop of the 10.4 furlong (approximately 1.3 mile/ 2 km) circuit before handing over their baton to the next runner. The race will be split into an adult event (15 years and over) and a junior event with two junior prize categories (8 - 11 years and 12- 14 years old). There will be prizes for the first teams and spot prizes. Teams can be all male, female or mixed.
The route is on a firm, flat and wide gravel path which is visible for the whole circuit. There’s lots of space to relax and enjoy the event so bring your picnics, blankets and gazebos. You might even want to get into the racing spirit with team colours.
Please give your team a name – maybe something appropriately themed?
Any juniors under 16 years old will need to have parental permission and be accompanied at the event by a responsible adult.
There will be toilets on site and limited on-site car parking, the maximum entries are 250 runners.
Registration open at 9am, junior race at 10am and adults race to follow junior race.

Please enter me for the above event. I accept that the organiser will not be liable for any loss, damage, action, claim, cost or expenses which may arise in the consequence of my participation in or attendance to this event. I declare that I will not attend unless I am in good health on the day of the event and accept that I attend at my own risk. In the unlikely event of abandonment or cancellation, all or part of my entry fee may be retained for the management and administration of the event. No refunds or transfers allowed under any circumstances.
