Event Description

The Ben Campbell 5k & 10k Trail Run

April 22nd 2017  10am – 12:30pm

Around Sutton Bank’s White Horse, Kilburn Woods and Hood Hill.

This race has been organised as a non profit charity event, celebrating the life of Ben Campbell and supporting the UK Sepsis Trust who are commited to increasing public awareness and supporting those affected by sepsis.

Ben Campbell, a friend of ours, who grew up in Thirsk, tragically died at the age of 36 in Jan 2015, very unexpectedly, from pneumococcal pneumonia.

Ben lived in Knaresborough in his later years with his partner Helen and young twin boys. He was an avid mountain biker, runner (for Knaresborough Striders) and obstacle racer – he did incredibly well in the Spartan Series 2014 and also won the Pain Barrier race in November 2014 – and this is how we know him best, through training for, and competing in, the obstacle races with him.

To celebrate his life we have organised a 5k and 10k trail run at Kilburn woods. We have permission and the blessing from the family to name the event after him and it has now become an annual occasion.

Ben loved a challenge and it is for this reason that this idyllic location has been chosen. Not only does it it encompass the true beauty of the North Yorkshire countryside but the terrain itself is a challenge to run on, we are sure you will truly enjoy it.

The course fully way marked and marshalled, both hilly and muddy in places with breathtaking scenery. It presents itself to both seasoned and beginner runners aged 18 years or over with 5K and 10K races starting 15 minutes apart.

There are a limited number of entries available as it’s the first event to be held here, 50 for the 5K and 200 for the 10K.

Medals will be awarded for the first 3 Males and first 3 Females to complete each race as well as a trophy for the out right winner of each race.

This year we are suppoting the UK Sepsis Trust.
