Event Description
Set in the beautiful high Pennine valleys of Calderdale, the routes run over tracks across the surrounding moors with stunning views of the area. There are, however, some steep ascents and descents as the route takes you from moor top to moor top.
The event, run every year since 1979, raises money for 24th St Paul's Scouts and the work we do with young people of this town. The long route of 36 miles involves some 6200 feet of ascent, whilst the short route of 26 miles has 3200 feet of ascent and the very short 16 mile route has 2800 feet of ascent. The routes start and finish at Sowerby Cricket Club, St Peter´s Avenue, Sowerby, HX6 1DF, SE045232 ("South Pennines" Map). This is the Hike HQ.
As some of the terrain is harsh, the organizing committee recommend that navigation skills are required, especially if the weather is inclement.
Distance / Time Limit - 36, 26 or 16 miles - all must be completed by 8pm
Start Time - 36 mile walkers 07:00, 26/16 mile walkers 08:00, runners (all routes) 09:00
Kit Check – compulsory kit check opens 1 hour before each start
Route – From St Peter's Cricket Club, Sowerby Bridge - A choice of 3 circular routes in the Pennines, running west from Sowerby towards the Lancashire border
Cost - Individuals £20. Team of 4 £70. Includes:
- refreshments at roadside checkpoints
- transport from any roadside retirement point back to HQ
- hot meal back at HQ
- a licensed bar (sorry - not free)
- certificate of achievement
- full results sheet
Car Parking – Free, large car park at nearby school and on street.

To qualify for team times all team members must stay together throughout the hike and finish as a team.
NOTE: entrants of 14 years to be in teams of 4, if not accompanied by an adult. If you are a junior team please give your leader’s details as below.

Please enter me for the above event. I accept that the organiser will not be liable for any loss, damage, action, claim, cost or expenses which may arise in the consequence of my participation in or attendance to this event. I declare that I will not attend unless I am in good health on the day of the event and accept that I attend at my own risk. In the unlikely event of abandonment or cancellation, all or part of my entry fee may be retained for the management and administration of the event. No refunds or transfers allowed under any circumstances.
