Event Description

The Course: This is a hilly 10 mile run starting and finishing at Ripley Castle.  Most of the course is on quiet country roads with a couple of sections on well surfaced bridleway. You can view the new route at http://niddvalleyroadrunners.co.uk/guy-fawkes-race-map/

Safety advice: Please note that the course is not suitable for wheelchair racers and dogs are not permitted. The event takes place on public roads shared with motor traffic. Due to safety reasons the wearing of headphones and audio devices will not be allowed.

Directions to Race Venue: Ripley is 3 miles north of Harrogate just off the A61 Ripon Road. The post code for the event centre is HG3 3AY.

Car Parking: There is ample parking for competitors and supporters in Ripley. Please follow directions. Do not park at the side of the roads in Ripley, as this will lead to congestion.

Race HQ: Race HQ is based in Ripley Village Hall which will be well signposted from car parks. Registration will take place at Ripley Village Hall and all race numbers are to be collected at registration on the day.

Please congregate at the START sign in the main car park as usual 10 minutes before the race, you will then be led to the start by marshals.

Prizes: The prize ceremony will be held at Race HQ at approximately 12:30.

Changing and Toilets: There will be toilet facilities available in the main car park and at Race HQ. Unfortunately we are unable to provide any changing or showering facilities.

Drinks: There will be 2 drinks stations on route at approximately 4 miles and 8 miles. Drinks will also be provided at the finish.

First Aid: Qualified first aid assistance will be in attendance in Ripley as well as a rapid response vehicle. There will be a sick bay in Ripley Castle.

Medical Advice: Please do not run if you feel unwell. If you suffer from any medical condition, please write the details on the back of your number.

Time Limit: There will be an official time limit of 13 mins per mile (2 hours and 10 minutes overall). Competitors on the course after this time may be asked to retire from the race.

Results: Race results are being compiled by UK Results and will be available on both UK Results and NVRR Club websites.

Catering and hot drinks: Will be available in Ripley Village Hall (Race HQ) before, during and after the race.

Race Abandonment: We sincerely hope that abandonment decisions are unnecessary. However should we be unfortunate, runners will be informed as soon as a decision is made. In the event of a late cancellation, we will endeavour to update our website (see address above). We will also advise Stray FM (97.2 FM) and BBC Radio York (103.7 FM/95.5 FM). Unfortunately entry refunds will not be possible, as many of the race expenses will have been incurred.

Guy Fawkes 10 - Headphones and safety policy

The wearing of any headphones and/or the use of any headphone devices during the safety briefing and during the duration of the race is not allowed. Any runners found to be wearing headphones and/or using headphone devices will be disqualified from the race. Their time will not be included in the official race results and they will not be eligible for any prizes.

Headphone devices include but are not limited to MP3s, IPODs, MP4s, mobile phones, radios etc. The wearing of hearing aids is permissible.

This policy has been introduced in the interests of runner, spectator and marshal safety. By wearing headphones and/or using headphone devices you are endangering your own safety and the safety of other runners around you. The Guy Fawkes 10 is run on open public roads with other road users alongside runners. It is vitally important you are able to hear and act upon any safety instructions issued to you by marshals and race officials.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL NUMBERS ARE TO BE COLLECTED ON THE DAY - PLEASE ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME FOR THIS.
