The FAQ section has been created to answer the more commonly asked questions by customers. If your question is not listed below, please contact the organiser using the contact details on the event page.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How can I contact the event organiser?

A. The event organisers contact details are displayed at the top of the event listing page.

Q. What is the history/story of this event?

A. TIM WEALTHALL MILE HISTORY
This annual event reaches its 27th year in 2016 and even though International athletes have made strong attempts over the years the four minute barrier has still not been officially beaten in Nottingham. It is now 62 years since Roger Bannister broke 4 minutes for the mile in Oxford and still we await our first in Nottingham. Rumours of Seb Coe running ‘sub 4’ in training and another race without the correct number of officials add more spice to the event. Our first race in memory of Tim was held on the field at Harvey Hadden in 1990. Since then the event has blossomed into several mile races, with the Richard Bird trophy for fastest female sponsored by John Cooper/Ron Hill sports. In the last four years we have also added a 5k race and once again our kind sponsors Mellor Oxland Chartered Tax Advisers and Ridgeway Textiles t/a Ron Hill Specials have added extra prize money to these events giving even greater prestige to the meeting.

The 5k race is for the fourth year being held in memory of Richard Belton who sadly died in 2011 at the young age of 24. Richard, like Tim, was a member of Notts AC from his early teens and graduated through our successful youth scheme to become a good standard senior athlete. He had a similar attitude to Tim; always enthusiastic and wanting to compete for the club at local and National events. Richard gained a degree at Loughborough University and was working for the British Triathlon Association. He collapsed and died playing volleyball and his death left many athletes, colleagues, and his family in shock. We hope to preserve the memory of his happy running days with our club by holding the 5k race in his honour.
Tim Wealthall died at the age of 26 leaving behind a wife, four year old daughter and severely disabled two year old son. He was a county standard athlete competing for Notts AC in local and national competitions.

He was a local Bilborough lad who was proud to run for the club. Due to the severity of his illness he had to stop running, but still insisted on attending training sessions to help coach the youngsters. Towards the end of his life he could not walk but still attended the county track championships sitting in a wheel chair supporting his team mates.
His death had a devastating impact on his fellow athletes, family and friends. To cushion the blow it was decided to hold this event and each year it is attended by most of his family; many now retired athletes and old friends.
The event is unique for having officials who previously ran with Tim and refuse to give the event up. Some of them have suffered ill health but would not dream of missing the event. Time keeper Jack Walters has officiated at all of the races. Other unsung heroes are Keith Picksley and Alan Smith who look forward to the event each year. All of the officials and helpers deserve praise for making this evening such a special event.

The Tim Wealthall Mile record is 4.02.0 run by Richard Weir of Derby AC in 2014. Let’s hope that in 2016 the athletes can make it even more special by beating the 4 minute barrier!
Other times to beat are:-
Richard Bird Ladies’ Mile 4.42.5 Juliet Doyle (Charnwood) 2009
Richard Belton 5k 14.26.4 Bruce Raeside (Notts AC) 2010
Ladies 5k 5k 16.34.9 Amy Whitehead (Notts AC) 2013

Notts AC wishes all those taking part best wishes and we hope you achieve your own personal targets. Not everyone can break the magical 4 minute barrier but all can enjoy having a go and taking part in this wonderful historic event.

Q. How will I receive my vest number?

A. All vest numbers are to be collected on the night from the Clubhouse.
