The Andy O’Sullivan 5k Cowm Reservoir Race

RACE INFORMATION

We’re really looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday (22 June) at 7pm for the Andy O’Sullivan 5k race at Cowm Reservoir. We’ve had confirmation from the Police and UK Athletics that the event can go ahead but have had to move the start and slightly amend the route.

 

As we are still under some covid restrictions, please read these details carefully so we can keep you all as safe as possible and comply with government guidance. 

 

Pre-race 

Please don’t attend if you or anyone you live with has covid symptoms. Come dressed ready to run as there are no changing facilities at the event. Parking is limited so we advise you to arrive early, and park on Cowm Park Way South (OL12 8AH).  

 

Registration is at the Cock & Magpie pub on Cockhall Lane, OL12 8BJ. There will be a one way system in and out to collect your race number so allow extra time for this. Toilets are also available. You will need to wear a face covering to enter the pub. 

 

 

The route 

The race will be on the revised route (see attached image) so we can maintain good distance between runners as it is not a chip timed event. If your 5k time is under 20 minutes, please start at the front, 30 minutes in the middle and so on, as this will also help spread runners out.  

 

It is a fast downhill start, so please be careful. You will then pass in front of the water ski centre, run along the straight before turning right to do two laps of the reservoir (this is the opposite direction to the usual route if you’ve done this race before). The finish is in the usual place on the lane. Marshals will be present throughout the course should you require any assistance. 

 

 

Post-race 

Once you have crossed the line, please use the gate on your right to exit the finish area and walk up the hill before using the pavement to come back down to the Cock & Magpie. Please keep your distance from those still running. 

 

You’ll need to bring your own drinks, or money to purchase drinks from the pub, where there is a large beer garden. Derek the landlord has asked that you wear a face covering on entering and leaving the building. The England match is also being shown if you would like to stay after the race. 

 

The Whit'th Whippets group will be providing the prizes so 1st place will not be a holiday in the Seychelles! Prizes will be awarded at 8pm, probably in the beer garden.  

 

Please can we ask you all to arrive in good time to register. The new start is a 10 minute walk uphill to the boulders at the top of Back Lane, so we advise you do not arrive any later than 6.30pm.
