Running the eleventh, Newcastle Dales Dash, 11.00am Sunday, 7th December 2014, celebrating the 10th Anniversary
The Newcastle Dales Dash is an annual multi-terrain race across the reclaimed coal mining landscape west of Newcastle-under-Lyme. The route of the race takes in most of Apedale, now a beautiful Community Country Park with woodlands, meadows and pools. The race then takes a turn around Lymedale, once site of the famous Brymbo pit but now a solar panelled business park with wetlands and fishing ponds incorporated.
This year’s race is the eleventh staging of this event, first organised by Margaret Barker when she was with the Newcastle Countryside Project, she was a runner too and a member of Newcastle(Staffs) Athletics Club. Sadly Margaret is no longer with us, so trophies for the Winning lady, 1st Newcastle(Staffs) AC lady, and first male and female under 16 are now awarded in her memory.
This years ‘Dash’ celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the race. It is a special annual event at Apedale, which can only take place, thanks to the help from the band of willing volunteers who maintain and layout the route and marshal on the day.
The Newcastle Countryside Project Officer, Pete Wells is the Race Director supported by Ken Rushton our Race Referee, our team of Timekeepers, the Park Ranger Service and Newcastle(Staffs)AC.
This year will be the eleventh staging of the Newcastle Dales Dash. Again all runners will receive a beautiful Aynsley China Mug bearing the Apedale Community Country Park logo(in red), started in 2012, Olympic Year, (in green) these should over time create a unique collection of mugs bearing all the Olympic colours, blue yellow black green and red. Prizes go to all the usual categories.
