The Big Burnley Walk – Year 4

The Big Burnley Walk is back for its fourth year! New routes have been created to connect people and communities with some of Burnley’s fantastic green and blue spaces.

Starting and finishing at Prairie Sports Village, participants can choose from two walking routes. Both routes showcase a mix of urban and rural landscapes, using some of the town’s excellent greenways, footpaths and trails.

For those who have taken part in previous Big Burnley Walk events, this year’s routes will also highlight new paths in a different part of the town, whilst also connecting to areas and routes used in previous years.

Maps with brief written instructions will be provided on the day. Route overviews and links will also be available further down this page.

This is a self-led walk, and there will be no checkpoints along the route. However, a tail walker/sweeper will follow the route to remove signage and provide support if needed.

Itinerary

Registration: From 8:45am

• 9:15am – Walk briefing
• 9:20am – Both routes depart

As this is an outdoor event, participants should dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear. Please check the forecast on the day and bring items such as warm clothing, waterproofs, or sun protection as needed.

Option 3: Family Explorer Walk
A shorter 60-90 minute family stroll exploring nature will take place at 11:00am.
No registration or booking is required.

Other Information

Cancellation - The event will only be cancelled if there is a severe weather warning or flooding affecting the route.
Any cancellation decision will be made by 7:30am on the day of the event, and participants will be notified via email.

If you can no longer attend, please inform the organisers in advance. This helps make the check-in and registration process smoother on the day.

Further Communications - Aside from an event reminder in the week leading up to the walk, no further emails will be sent. All key information is available on this page and in the FAQ.
