3 Steps To Organising The Perfect Event

Can you imagine standing alone in a muddy field on a rainy afternoon, scratching your head as you wonder where on earth everyone has got to? How about preparing to hand out bottles of water to your entrants… only to realise that you haven’t got any? (Entrants that is… not water!)

It’s a nightmare scenario that every running event organiser struggles with before the big day. What if nobody shows up? What if it’s a huge disaster? But these are worries that you can’t let get the better of you, because such doubts may lead to you deciding to forget the whole thing and calling it off- which would be the biggest disaster of all.

Nope, in times like these you need to keep calm and focused, and ensure that you’re doing everything possible to put on a fantastic running event. So how do you do that? We’re glad you asked, because we’ve got some steps here that are bound to set you on the path to a great race day.

Step 1: Choose A Venue

The very first thing you need to do is decide on where you’d like to host your running event. This is perhaps the most important decision you’ll have to make as the event organiser, with factors such as the weather and travel having to be taken into careful consideration.

But it’s not all about avoiding the Saturday morning drizzle or a two-hour bus ride, because you need to make sure that your venue is safe and secure. The last thing you want to be worried about is the prospect of any unnecessary accidents occurring, and so your venue needs to put safety first, convenience second.

That being said, you can’t expect people to travel too far out of their way to take part- especially if this is your first event. It needs to be somewhere with excellent transport links and a safe race route.

Step 2: Have Fun With It

This is the step that so many organisers seem to forget in the lead up to the big day. They let all of the stress and worry get on top of them, which turns the event into a bit of a chaotic whirlwind where something is bound to go wrong.

Instead of letting such problems arise, you need to remember to have some fun with it. As an event organiser, there’s bound to be issues of some description somewhere down the line, so all you can do is take them on the chin and find a solution. We understand that this is much easier said than done- but we recommend taking a deep breath in times of stress, and remembering that you want your event to be fun.
