2018 Exercise Regime: Sticking To Your New Year’s Resolution

With the start of a brand-new year, you can always be absolutely sure of one very important thing: people all over the country will be setting themselves some challenging resolutions.

There are obviously no rules or restrictions when it comes to settling on your own New Year’s resolution. Some people choose to have a go at ‘Dry January’, while others simply resolve to finally redecorate their house at some point. The most common resolution, however, is to start getting some more exercise.

After a festive period of lazing in front of the telly and attempting to eat our own body weight in food, it’s only natural for so many of us to decide that we need a bit of a detox at the start of the year. This ultimately leads to strict diets and rigorous exercise routine, as people all over the country look to shed those extra pounds just in time for the summer.

The problem is, a lot of these people eventually end up running out of motivation and falling off the wagon at some point. When there’s nothing pushing you to go for that run on a Friday evening or nothing preventing you from scoffing that chocolate donut, it’s simply too easy to succumb to a moment of weakness. No one’s got time for that kind of guilt, right?

So, we have a small piece of advice for any of you hoping to lose some weight at the start of 2018: get yourself booked onto a running event.

If you’ve got your name down for a big event in a couple of months’ time, for example, you’ve set yourself a clear goal and come up with your own motivational tool. That one night you’re lacking a bit of motivation, instead of thinking “I’ll do it tomorrow” and flopping on the sofa, you’ll think “no, I need to do this.”

The last thing you want is to get yourself signed up to one of the UK’s top running events, tell all your friends and family about it and then, on the day of the race, realise you’re in no fit state to climb a flight of stairs, never mind run a marathon.

It’s this kind of extra motivation that will ultimately help you stick to your New Year’s resolution. While some people just think about how they’d like to change, signing up to a running event and setting a clear goal in place makes a clear statement of intent.

Sure, you might want to bite that donut every now and again but, if you’ve committed to taking part in some running events, you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll be in much better shape once the day of the event finally arrives. The result? You’ve successfully followed through on your New Year’s resolution, which is something that everyone in the world struggles to do.
