Still unsure? Here are some more reasons that may entice you
to take part:
Free
Parkruns are led by teams of volunteers and the 5k courses are free for anyone to run. All you have to do is register online and print out a barcode with your unique number in order to track your race. Then you can simply turn up at your local parkrun and your time will automatically be processed and uploaded online.
It’s Everywhere
Once you are registered, you can take part in any Parkrun worldwide. There are more than 300 Parkrun communities across the UK – as well as events in Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Russia, South Africa, Poland, Ireland and the USA. So, no matter where you find yourself, odds are you’ll be close by to one.
It can be competitive – or not!
Technically it’s a run, not a race, but times are recorded and posted, so if you’re aiming at increasing your time or want some healthy competition you can. If you simply want a social way to get in some exercise, that’s OK too. All levels are welcome, so the run can be as competitive as you want it to be.
The whole family can get involved
Parkruns are made for everyone: many walk the 5k and prams and dogs are even welcome at a number of courses, so people of any level can easily get involved. Junior Parkruns take place every Sunday morning at 9am too, so runner between the ages of 4-14 can experience timed 2k runs.
