Marathon
As one of the most difficult running events around, many people spend years training for a marathon. Comprised of 26 miles, or 42.195 kilometres, it is important to be physically and mentally fit in order to take part in one of the 800 marathons that are held every year. After all, the amount of work that is carried out can take a considerable toll on your mental health.
Decathlon
As a 10 part race, running isn’t the prime focus of a decathlon. In fact, this famous Olympic sport requires participants to be extremely fit in every single aspect to even have a chance of coming out on top. The event includes the pole vault, the high jump, the long jump, javelin, shot put, discus, a 110 metre hurdle, a 100 metre dash, a 400 metre run and a 1500 metre run!
Triathlon
As the name suggests, a triathlon is a three part sporting event that is said to be three times more difficult than a marathon. After all, it is comprised of a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride and a 10km run. In fact, in iron man marathons, competitors are expected to compete an entire marathon in the running segment, with the swimming and cycling aspects increased in length too!
