About the Thirsk 10

The Thirsk 10 has been run for over 30 years and in the early days it was run from Northallerton to Thirsk. However with the passage of time and the increase in road traffic the route had to be changed. For many years the route went through Sowerby and then out into the country, but some years ago the route had to be changed again because of the problems with closing the roads around town and the resulting traffic congestion.

We now have a fast flat course which lends its self to a fast time and gives all abilities a chance of achieving a PB. It is a wheel chair friendly route and such competitors are started 10 minutes ahead of the main field. In recent years the Club has hosted the North of England 10 mile Championship, Yorkshire Veterans Championships and the North Yorkshire Championships.

The finish is at the main grandstand at Thirsk Race Course and the Club appreciates the support give by the Race Course. Let's Run Voucher prizes are awarded in all age categories and team prizes.

Northern Athletics will also provide medals to the first 3 individuals, and 1st 3 teams, both male and female, who are from Northern Athletics affiliated clubs.

****Following a meeting with our T10 Traffic Management Team, it has been brought to our attention that in the event of participants choosing to walk the race, highway and participant safety becomes significantly compromised due to the resulting fragmentation of the race field. We do not currently have a cut off period, your safety and that of highway users, which is of paramount importance to us, will be judged at the Race Directors discretion. Enjoy your Race!****

** Wheelchair Race **

To ensure road safety, provide sufficient support and maximise the event's atmosphere for participants, the 2024 Wheelchair event will only go ahead if we receive a minimum of 8 entries by 31st January 2024.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer wheelchair entries after this date which follows that we will not be able to accept entries on the day.  Should the quota not be met, any athletes already entered will receive a full refund.

** Yorkshire Veterans **

This race incorporates the Yorkshire Veteran’s Athletic Association 10 mile championship

The Yorkshire Veteran’s championship will be open to veterans who are members of a club affiliated to the YVAA or are members of Northern Veteran’s AC, are resident in the Yorkshire area and are individually affiliated to the YVAA

Age category will be based on age at race day

Pre entry only for the championship

Event Terms

- I declare I am an amateur as defined by UK Athletics Laws and will abide by the laws and rules of UK Athletics. I accept that the organiser will not be liable for any loss, damage, action, claim, cost or expenses which may arise in the consequence of my participation in this race. I declare that I will not compete unless I am in good health on the day of the race and that in any event I will compete at my own risk. In the unlikely event of the race being cancelled, entry fees WILL NOT be refunded.

All headphones including bone conductors are NOT PERMITTED. The Thirsk 10 is run on roads with live traffic in some place and therefore we do not permit runners to wear any type of headphones. Failure to observe this rule will result in disqualification. We are aware of the UKA guidance on bone conductors but this is guidance only and our race does not permit their use. Please respect this rule - it is for the safety of all runners.
