The FAQ section has been created to answer the more commonly asked questions by customers. If your question is not listed below, please contact the organiser using the contact details on the event page.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How can I contact the event organiser?

A. Email: steve@slateman.co.uk
Mobile: 07974 795466

Q. How can I find the Lakeland Slateman 3 Peaks Duathlon Website?

A. Go to: www.slateman.uk

Once you have entered you will find details of the event along with updates and a start list of competitors who have entered.

Q. It there an entry limit and closing date?

A. Yes: This is the inaugural Lakeland Slateman Duathlon so we are limiting it to just 50 teams of two - 100 entries. So book early to guarantee your entry.

Q. Is the course way-marked?

A. No. We ask that all competitors are both competent 'Mountain Bikers' and 'Fell Runner' and have good navigational skills. Therefore we expect everyone to study the course map well in advance and be prepared to navigate between the official check-points throughout. However, for extra safety, we will provide some way-marking at strategic points around the course as we want you to enjoy the day and will provide some flags and road signs on the route to guide everyone through. These should not be relied on to get you around the course - they are just there to assist.

Q. Is there a cut-off time?

A. A cut-off time may be imposed on the last peak at the discretion of the organiser. This would be circa 17.00 at the foot of Skiddaw. Thus ensuring all competitors complete the Challenge before dark.

Q. What will be my start time?

A. The event starts at 07.00 and each team will set-off at one minute intervals through to 08.00. Your start time will be pre-determined from your given 10k times declared at time of entry. This way, slower runners will have more time to complete the course.

Q. How experienced do I need to be to complete this Challenge?

A. As said, every competitor must have good mountain bike and fell running experience. You must have a bicycle suitable for tough mountain biking along with the right kit including suitable fell-running shoes for running on the Lakeland Fells. You must have good navigation skills particularly for running on the fells as weather conditions could be poor.

Q. Are the Check-points manned?

A. Yes. Each mountain bike change-over as well as each summit peak will have course marshals to check you and you team mate through.

Q. Is there back-up support along the way?

A. Yes. We will have a minibus and bike trailer on hand to support any teams who drop out along the way. (Hopefully not!) All competitors must carry repair kits for their own basic repairs. If the bike is irreparable then we will transport you back to the start venue.

Q. If one team member drops out through injury or bike issues can the other carry on?

A. Yes. We would expect the other to make to the next road check point then team up with another following team pair who are happy for you to join up. We are confident that other teams would embrace this.

Q. Is there water at the mountain peaks?

A. No. Our summit marshals will have some water in case of emergency but all runners will be expected to carry their own supplies..However, there will be bottled water and other energy drinks and food at each road checkpoint.

Q. Is there water and food at the bike check points?

A. Yes! We will provide plenty of bottled water and a great selection of carb loading food and Energy Gels at each roadside checkpoint.

Q. If I am ill or injured before the race can I obtain a refund or substitute my entry?

A. We cannot give refunds but we will allow you to transfer your entry to another runner.
